ATMAPI Nigeria: Roles and Responsibilities of Coordinators

1. Local Government Coordinators

Role Overview:

Local Government Coordinators serve as the frontline representatives of ATMAPI within their respective LGAs. They implement ATMAPI programs and campaigns at the grassroots, engage with the public, and coordinate with relevant local authorities to foster a culture of safety and responsibility on Nigerian roads.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Community Engagement: Organize sensitization campaigns, road safety education in schools, markets, and motor parks.

  • Monitoring Road Activities: Observe traffic behavior, identify accident-prone zones, and report hazards to zonal/state coordinators.

  • Data Collection: Gather statistics on road incidents, traffic flow, and safety challenges for program evaluation.

  • Partnership Building: Liaise with local traffic officers, traditional rulers, youth groups, and NGOs to promote ATMAPI goals.

  • Volunteer Mobilization: Recruit and train volunteers to support ATMAPI initiatives in their communities.

Impact:

Local Government Coordinators are the heartbeat of ATMAPI’s community efforts. Their grassroots presence ensures road safety messages reach those who need them most — drivers, commuters, pedestrians, and youth.

2. Zonal Coordinators

Role Overview:

Zonal Coordinators oversee multiple LGAs within their geopolitical zone. They provide leadership and coordination for local efforts and ensure consistency in the implementation of ATMAPI programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervision & Support: Guide and support Local Government Coordinators across the zone.

  • Program Implementation: Coordinate zonal road safety campaigns, seminars, and public awareness drives.

  • Incident Reporting: Analyze reports from LGAs and escalate critical issues to state or national level.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build relationships with regional transport unions, media outlets, and government agencies (like FRSC, VIO).

  • Conflict Resolution: Intervene in areas facing resistance or challenges in implementing safety policies.

Impact:

Zonal Coordinators serve as a vital bridge between the grassroots and state/national operations. Their leadership ensures a unified strategy across regions, reinforcing ATMAPI’s mission with strong community backing.

3. State Coordinators

Role Overview:

State Coordinators lead ATMAPI operations at the state level, aligning local and zonal activities with the broader vision of accident prevention and traffic management in Nigeria.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and oversee the implementation of state-wide traffic safety and awareness programs.

  • Government Collaboration: Partner with state ministries, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and law enforcement to integrate ATMAPI’s mission into public policy.

  • Media & Advocacy: Represent ATMAPI in media interviews, public forums, and advocacy meetings.

  • Performance Evaluation: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of zonal and local activities and report to the national leadership.

  • Crisis Response: Lead coordinated responses to major accidents or road safety emergencies in the state.

Impact:

State Coordinators are the faces of ATMAPI at the state level. Their leadership not only enhances visibility and credibility but also ensures high-impact programs are executed with precision and integrity.

Conclusion: Building a Safer Nigeria, Together

ATMAPI’s coordinators are the backbone of our mission to reduce accidents, promote responsible road use, and save lives. Whether at the local, zonal, or state level, each coordinator plays a crucial role in shaping a safety-conscious culture across Nigeria.

Together, we are creating a hazard-free environment, empowering communities, and building a nation where every road user can travel with confidence and security.
